Disneyland Paris: Day 4 – Lions, pirates and mice.. oh boy!

Here we were on our last full day at the parks and our final night staying at Sequoia Lodge. So today was the day we would have to fit in everything that we hadn’t had time to do so far – A lot! Again, we didn’t have a real plan but I knew some of the things I wanted to be sure we did before leaving.

The only thing I was certain of was our dinner reservations which gave us an idea of where we needed to be and at what time. Today we’d be eating at two restaurants on our dining plan and I was really excited to try a sit down meal instead of a buffet for a change!

But, first things first.. Breakfast! The most important meal of the day as they say and our favourite because it always sets us up for our day on holiday. Yesterday we were busy with our character breakfast which you can read about here so today was back to our hotel for breakfast instead.

You might remember me mentioning a family that ended up next to us at Plaza Gardens yesterday. I wrote about this on my last post here. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to find the exact same family sat next to us at breakfast again! We had no idea that they were staying at the same hotel as us. Disneyland Paris has a lot of hotels, large breakfast halls and a wide time frame for eating breakfast so the chance of this happening has to be slim!

It’s a small world after all and it was about to get smaller.

As we headed out of the breakfast room we spotted Minnie Mouse doing the meet and greet. As Hilda’s favourite, we just knew we had to meet her again today for a photograph. We couldn’t believe it when next to us in the line were the very same family who we had met on Day 1 eating at Agrabah Cafe with us! You can read about that experience here. It is moments like this that really make me reflect on just how small of a world we live in. It really started to feel like we were in a small hotel rather than a giant collection of resorts!

Hilda was excited to meet Minnie again. Pointing at her in line, laughing and squealing in excitement. We even treated her to her very own Minnie Mouse toy to take home too. Of course the moment we went to meet her this all changed and once again she hated the experience. The photo speaks volumes as her face doesn’t hide the suspicion as she glares at Minnie..

A photo that will make me chuckle forever!

After getting ready at our room we were pretty late leaving and we knew we wouldn’t have long before our first lunch reservation of the day. We started to walk to the Disneyland Park and just like every other day, our daughter fell asleep in the stroller on the way.

So we took our time and enjoyed the leisurely stroll along Lake Disney, past the hot air balloon and through Disney Village. We absolutely loved doing this walk every day.

In fact, we didn’t use the free shuttles once. We would book this hotel again just purely because of the beautiful walk to the park and how easy it was to navigate around the resort. The scenery was stunning and peaceful around Sequoia Lodge.

We made it to the parks midday, and our reservation was at 1pm. At this point, we weren’t particularly hungry, but it’s kind of tricky to change your reservation once you’ve booked it. Not to mention the fact Hilda was sleeping so we figured this might be the perfect opportunity for us to enjoy a peaceful drink together.

Our reservation was at Walt’s – an American restaurant. When doing the research, this restaurant came up as the most recommended place to eat throughout the parks. The reviews were raving and because it is themed around Walt Disney, it’s quite unique in itself.

The restaurant is located slap bang in the centre of Main Street – What a location! If you book a table at the right time, and are lucky enough to be seated in the window, you can even catch the parade coming past whilst you’re enjoying your food! At the time I booked this restaurant I didn’t have a clue what time the parade would be at and I didn’t want to rely on getting a table in the right spot, I just wanted to be able to enjoy lunch with no pressure.

The thing I love most about Disney is you can walk into somewhere fancy wearing Disney clothes, shorts and a pair of mouse ears. Nobody judges you! There is no way on earth me and my husband would be seen wearing anything like this on a date night back home, that’s for sure.

I didn’t read too much into what the food would be like there. I do enjoy the element of surprise. So all we expected was it to be a set menu that we choose from; Starter, main and dessert. A little fancier than our previous meals as it wasn’t a buffet.

I also knew that a drink wasn’t included, so we took the opportunity to treat ourselves to something a little more unique. My husband stuck with his usual IPA; He was just glad to be able to get one for once! I went for one of the more extravagant cocktails…

Whilst it was a little expensive, in my opinion it was worth every penny! Being able to sip cocktails on Main Street in Disneyland is a pretty unique experience and really, you can’t put a price on these moments.

At this point, Hilda was still asleep. We were able to put our food orders in and enjoy a drink.

Of course, this didn’t last long and she woke up just before food arrived. I ordered Chicken Pot Pie whilst Dec ordered Waldorf Salad. My stater was absolutely stunning. The presentation of all the meals throughout was really impressive and overall we were really satisfied with our food.

The Caramelised Millefeuille with Praline Mascarpone Cream dessert especially, was my favourite.

Not only did it taste amazing, but as you can see from the photo, it looked pretty spectacular too. I can understand why this restaurant is highly rated when It was the first time I’d seen something with elegance in comparison to the fast food and canteen style buffets.

I would definitely recommend Walt’s for a special occasion. And I can imagine many people spend their birthdays and celebrations here. We absolutely loved our experience here and it was really cool to see all the decor featuring Walt and Roy Disney. The meals were inspired by the childhood of Disney too which was a nice touch.

Now that lunch was done, I had a list of all the attractions and shows left to do. We’d not seen a single show yet so this was top of the list! We tried to get into Mickey and the Magician in Studios yesterday but because there is normally 3 or 4 shows in the Studios Park and none of these were running, this meant the Mickey one was extremely busy. So even though we arrived before the show started, they said it was already full 45 minutes beforehand! So we didn’t stand a chance of getting in. This was really disappointing, but I learnt my lesson and felt that today we should go early if we want to catch a show.

For me, Lion King is one of my favourite films and I’ve seen the theatre stage already. I’ve also been a fan of the movie since it was released so this was a no-brainer that Lion King should be the show for us. Not forgetting our daughter absolutely loves animals!

The show was to take place at 4:15pm in Adventureland and with the Mickey scenario in my mind I wanted to get there for around half 3.

We had some time to kill as we left Walt’s but of course upon leaving we had to bump into Minnie Mouse and her marching band once again. Hilda, wasn’t letting us get away without a little dance.

At this point I had lost count of how many times we saw this play during our stay here! Not that this was a bother, because it was actually really enjoyable. The songs were fun and Hilda loved it. The main song played on repeat has been stuck in my head since I returned to England over a month ago! After saying goodbye to Minnie we headed across the street to a store on Main Street.

I’d read about this place on a Disneyland Planning group on Facebook. It was a souvenir recommendation where they said you could get a silhouette done of your family. Once I learnt about this, I knew I had to have it. This is so unique and I’d not seen anything like it before. I knew that we would keep it forever so it would be the perfect thing to commemorate our first ever trip to Disneyland together.

It wasn’t cheap with a price tag of €15 per person plus €15 for the frame but I genuinely believe it was worth every penny. This will be treasured forever and will always remind me of this moment.

Part of the fun was getting it done and I had no idea how they would capture this. I thought they would take a photo of our silhouette or shadow then cut around it. How they actually do it was way more impressive. We were to sit on a stool whilst a cast member cut out a piece of card to match our shape. It only took around 5 minutes per person to do! A lot quicker than expected and the end result was really impressive. I am especially impressed that we were able to get our two-year-old to sit still for long enough to actually have this done!

Whilst my husband and I were getting ours done she proceeded to spin around a nearby parasol. Anything to keep her occupied!

I love that we have this keepsake forever. It is one of my favourite memorabilia, from the whole trip.

After capturing our moments in souvenir form we headed for Frontierland to watch The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands in good time. It was baking hot and standing in the queue outside was tricky even just for 15 minutes until they let us in. We were happy though because we knew our proximity to the front meant we would definitely get in this time!

The theatre was very large and despite us being seated in one of the stalls on the far right, I was surprised at how good the view was. It is one of those brilliant theatres that has been designed well enough to give everyone in the room an enjoyable experience!

We didn’t know how Hilda would get on with it being a 30 minute show. That’s a long time for a 2 year old to sit still! So we sat her in between us both and she waited with anticipation at what was to come. It would be her first ever stage show and what a way to begin! (One of the greats in my opinion).

She didn’t move an inch. She stared at the stage in awe of the performers. Aerial artists swinging from the roofs, amazing singers, dancers everywhere.. I’m not surprised she couldn’t take her eyes off the action! She did get distracted by the shadows on the wall at one point though.

The show was one of the highlights of our trip and if our daughter was to speak, i’m sure she’d agree! I am so glad we made time to fit this show in.

On our way out of the theatre as we headed out of Frontierland we bumped in to Hilda’s old pal – Goofy!

I love the spontaneous meets. Queuing to meet characters is so regimented and often disappointing but bumping in to them is much more fun! It doesn’t happen often but i’ve previously bumped in to Jafar, Rafiki and on this trip Princess Tiana & the toy soldiers.

We were out of plans for this afternoon so we headed over to Discoveryland to watch Mickey’s PhilharMagic. I knew it was a quick movie in a theatre using 3D glasses so whilst it was a nice break from the sun, I didn’t think Hilda would get much out of it. After this we grabbed a slush from the Cool Station and gave ourselves an icy brain freeze!

Whilst it didn’t feel like 2 seconds ago we were sipping cocktails in Walt’s, it was already time for our dinner reservations! This time we were heading to Captain Jack’s in Adventureland for our 6:15pm sitting. I’d timed this really badly because the final show in the park was at 7:30pm and it was our last chance to catch it! Unfortunately there were no earlier or later tables for me to change the booking to so we just had to roll with it. So off we headed to our favourite part of the park where we’d been looking forward to dining amongst pirates.

It was really quirky inside, I loved the wanted posters featuring Jack Sparrow and all the creative decor! An awesome addition is the fact the Pirates of the Caribbean ride actually comes through the restaurant! This was a big factor in us choosing to eat here.

Once we sat at our table it suddenly didn’t feel so magical. The place was super dark to the point where I found myself fishing out my phone to use the torch. I couldn’t even read the menu! Then when the food finally did come I couldn’t even see my plate. The waitress didn’t write our order down and she gave us the impression she was completely scrambled. I actually double checked my dessert order to find that she had got it wrong so I corrected her. Once the food finally did come out, it didn’t live up to the expectations set by everywhere else we’d eaten. It was so unmemorable that I can’t even remember what I ate! What I do know is that the dessert came out wrong and I had to wait ages for it to be sent back and my original order to come. You can probably guess – We missed the last show! I was disappointed but I knew really it was down to my bad planning. Difficult when you plan these things so far in advance!

I am glad we ate here because I know it is somewhere we’ve always wanted to try and we’d have gone eventually. The setting was unique and on another day, seated elsewhere, perhaps it would have been more enjoyable?

For the last part of our day we headed over to Fantasyland to try and fit in the rides we hadn’t had chance to do yet. This included Le Petite Train du Cirque which I knew Hilda was very excited to finally get on! It ended up being pretty short and I think Hilda actually preferred waving at the people on the train than being on it in the end.

Our little Cinderella had the time of her life today running around the parks exploring. Ending the day at Fantasyland gave us an opportunity to let her run wild and capture some cute photos.

We managed to make it until fireworks time once again, surprisingly, without her falling asleep. This time we didn’t watch them, we headed for the exit via some shops listening to the music as we went. I also had a sneaky go on Star Tours on the way out with sadly not enough time to enjoy parent switch – Dec will have to ride it next time!

Another Disney day done and dusted!

It was time to get the bulk of our belongings back in to the suitcase before checking out tomorrow morning – Sadly it was that time already!

  1. Sounds like such a magical (and jam-packed!) final day! Loved hearing about all the little moments with Hilda, especially her reaction to Minnie and the Lion King show. What a trip to remember!
