I just read… Road to Rouen by Ben Hatch

Firstly, if you’ve not read Ben Hatch before then you should probably know this is a follow up to Are we nearly there yet?

I read his first book last year and absolutely loved it. So much so that I ordered the follow up and I can’t believe it’s taken me a whole year to get round to starting it but finally here we are.

Ben’s original journey was an adventure with his wife and 2 children around the UK. They visited various attractions all over the country in order to write a guidebook in the end. Now take that story line and apply it to France and that’s what makes up the second instalment.

This time things don’t go quite to plan and I don’t think France sounds half as interesting as the UK does! What I loved about this book though is you really get to know Ben and his family and learn more about their life instead. If you hung on every word in the first novel then you’ll find this a great follow up. I found it really interesting to see the comparison between the two different countries and the experience the family were having.

My uncle actually lives in France but I’ve not had chance to visit him yet. I can’t say this novel has made me want to jump at the chance, if anything it has steered me away from visiting France!

The book is full of humour once again and I love how descriptive Ben is in making you feel like you are really there with him on the adventure. Just the kind of feeling you want  at a time like the present when you can’t leave the house.

If you want something funny, adventurous and informative then i’d highly recommend reading both of Ben Hatch’s novels. You never know, you might even find it inspires you to take a similar trip once this lockdown is finally lifted!
