The beautiful Lake Königssee

A short bus journey from Salzburg you’ll find a beautiful small town by a lake in Bavaria, Germany.

Nestled at the foot of the mountains Lake Konigssee is located right by Berchtesgaden and mostly within its national park.

I made a quick stop here during my visit to The Eagles Nest. You can read all about my day here.

I didn’t spend very long here but I had enough time to walk around and admire the beauty of this little place.

You’ll find lots of gift shops, restaurants, cafes and clothes stores. A very quaint little town beautifully lined with flowers.

Also known as the Kings Lake this is the most prominent reason for visiting here. I hear there are several hikes you can do round here including one that involves a waterfall.

I also had a few people recommend taking a boat across the lake for the day. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time for this but I bet it makes for a great day trip.

If you are going to be in Berchtesgaden to visit Eagles Nest then I recommend you pop on the 10 minute bus journey to pay a visit to the lake even if you only spend an hour here like I did it’s very pretty. You can even see the Eagles Nest perched on its mountain from here.

  1. Shame you didn’t have longer as the Konigsee is a really special place.. Glad the weather has improved for you though. Photos look fantastic.

    • Yeh I probably could have spent longer there but actually it just gives me a reason to go back! Also since I hiked up to Eagles Nest I was pretty tired and ready to end the day by this point! 🙂
