What has happened to 2020!?

Coronavirus.. I guess we never saw this coming.

If I did, I wouldn’t have planned so much for this year!

At the start of 2020 I had no goals other than the idea that I would start looking after myself more. I wrote about this in my usual annual post here about the year to come back in January.

I had planned to go to as many places I could this year in celebration of my 30th birthday in August. So far I’ve watched as 3 of my holidays have been cancelled, 2 theatre shows and a concert all gone and now I wonder… What next?

But what I am thankful for is that I still have my health. I may not have all the trips that I had planned to go on but it just gives me more to rearrange in the future I guess.

That brings me to why i’m writing this post. I’ve been looking forward to my 30th birthday celebrations for years trying to plan what I would be doing. In the end I decided to book a week away to Majorca and invite all my friends. It wasn’t my first choice but I couldn’t get the time off I needed to go further afield with it being August bank holiday and me now working in travel! So I booked a week in sunny Spain and invited everyone.

I don’t know if my trip will now go ahead in August. None of us know what will happen with COVID-19 and which countries will allow us to visit them. We don’t know when airlines will begin to fly again or when a slight bit of normality will return.

All I can do now is continue to hope that things will get better and in the meantime plan new adventures and hope they will go ahead!

As I approach mid May where I was meant to be spending 10 days in Spain soaking up the rays and hiking new areas, I was so very excited. I definitely can’t say i’m not gutted that I won’t be doing this now.

With a week off in September, November and December still to come alongside my original plans for June and August, then perhaps there will be time for me to plan something else if i get lucky? Otherwise I imagine I will be very well acquainted with the UK!

When I wrote this post it became so long that I’ve had to split it into two posts. I’ll post the rest tomorrow. But for now, what are you doing to keep your travel bug at bay?

Have you had holidays cancelled already or do you have things planned for the rest of the year? I’d love to know how people are coping and what you are keeping occupied with in the meantime 🙂

Stay safe!

Sophie
