I’ve recently started picking up where I left off with my storytelling and putting pen to paper again…or should I say putting fingers to keys!?
I want to find my mojo again because blogging was always my favourite past time. Not only did it help me get the thoughts out of my head but it was also a great way of recording my adventures. The best way to share my experiences with family, friends and anyone interested in reading. It even gave future me a thing to look back on and I do this more often than you’d think. I have over 10 years of content on here.. It’s hard not to get lost in it sometimes!

I read a post today from a fellow blogger talking about the extinction of blogging. How, only 5 years ago a post would spark so much engagement, tons of likes, comments and shares. Nowadays you need to be an influencer ticking all the boxes with a fabulous Instagram account to really reach anyone. Let’s not even get started on Tik Tok… I’m so old now I’m not ashamed to say I’ve never even been on it!

Many times in my life I’ve been asked why I don’t ‘try get into blogging and make money from it’ or ‘become a travel writer’. The thing is, I love to write – for me. Once you start writing for money, a boss or a reason that involves you clawing for content.. It takes the enjoyment out of it. I learnt that the hard way in previous jobs that involved content writing. I love to write without the pressure and the force.

I’ve never blogged for the like count but just for the idea of reaching someone who might relate to what i’m saying or have questions about somewhere i’ve been. I love to converse about travel and writing opens up that conversation!

I’ve definitely noticed that blogging is different now. The engagement has slowed down but so has my content – Life gets in the way sometimes.

So i’m building up my mojo again and writing for me! I’ve even purchased a new tablet to take on my future travels wherever they may take me! Even if it’s as far as the local park.. Blogging may be a thing of the past but who knows, perhaps it will be a thing of the future too when i’m reading back on all the things i’ve been upto.

What do you think? Have you noticed a decline in blogging or engagement? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Drop me a comment so I know you’re still out there 🙂

Hi Sophie 🙂
just a little tidbit (for now): the correct spelling is “pastime” (it’s a single word), and it refers to how someone enjoys *passing* the time.
I have DLed this (and your about page too — which I think is VERY well written 😉 ) to read and perhaps review later.

This comment sounds very critical and I’m not sure if you are being sarcastic with your smiley faces either… So I will say thanks for stopping by but not sure if that’s a good thing!

LOL, OK, well maybe check my second comment (below) and then maybe you can be more (or less?) sure! 😉

Hi Sophie 🙂
just checking whether perhaps I had written a (fairly long — but maybe not TOO long) comment and then perhaps I forgot to click the submit button?
I would simply write something again sort of *like* it (if you want).

Hi,
The comment I replied to yesterday is the only one I’ve received. Sorry I’m not sure what you mean but I just post on my blog as an enjoyment for myself so I don’t require it to be proofread or reviewed lol

I have been blogging for 10 years and it’s definitely something I do for me to look back on, saying that though ,some engagement is always nice. 🙂 I enjoy reading blogs too and have visited places recommended on other peoples blogs.
Just read the comments above. I always thought the saying was pass times 😃 so I will definitely be in trouble. Lol. X

Yeh it is a great way of keeping a diary without all the paper! (Sadly I also do that too so my house is full of journals! Haha) It’s so lovely to read back on though isn’t it? I like to hope that one day my children will grow up and read some of my travels too! I can’t say I’ve ever thought about how it’s spelt but I definitely have now! Haha every day is a school day hey! X

I hope not as I still enjoy reading blogs as generally they give me ideas and the old ones when people have transcribed from their old diaries give a good insight into travelling pre internet days – maybe one day I’ll do that. I don’t like the way its gone re influencers – too much is about first class/business travel which to me totally misses the point of travelling.
Re the pastime thing Norbert is correct spelling wise (I never noticed) but I am curious what DLed means – google has not been helpful x

I think your stories are so interesting you could easily create a book (or a few) out of them! I don’t like the way things are now either as its hard to tell who is recommending things legitimately or who has been ‘gifted’ a stay or product. I keep it simple with my blog – pay for everything myself and if it’s good I’ll shout about it!
I definitely spend a lot more on travel than I used to, to have a bit more luxury but it’s just a different side to travel isn’t it! If I could travel more often I’d probably spend less and go more but unfortunately working pays the bills lol
Glad to see you are still doing your fair share too! 😁
