Visiting Spain during the Covid-19 pandemic

What a week to remember!

I’ve just completed a week of training at a fitness bootcamp in Majorca! I know, probably not what you were expecting me to say. Especially not during a pandemic at least…

During lockdown I got really into my home workouts, yoga and a bit of flexibility sessions. It was the one thing that kept me occupied during the storm.

So before the travel bans were put in place, I booked to go to Majorca and take part in a bootcamp for 7 days. The flights were cheap and the package was on sale so I figured.. Why not?

When I first arrived it was tough seeing Majorca so quiet. Coronavirus has really destroyed tourism out there and it is a really sad sight to see the streets so empty. I actually found myself feeling really homesick.

After a few days I got used to it and started feeling really relaxed and content. The streets are way quieter than they are in the UK and it feels much safer.

Because of the lack of tourists, I was able to really throw myself in to the Spanish culture. I practiced Spanish at every opportunity, learning new words so quickly and feeling way more comfortable. I cycled on the roads alongside the locals appreciating the lack of traffic. I visited tourism hotpots with no tourists in sight.

It was a truly valuable experience and I don’t think I will ever have another one like it. I hope I don’t for the sake of the industry too.

I hope to be able to blog about my experience when I get chance. It was truly remarkable and I learnt so much about myself in such a short amount of time.

    • I think it actually was a better way to see the place! A fab way to learn the language too! I will probably never get to see a country in this way again, and hopefully this will be the last pandemic I live through!
