East Coast or not?

So my original plan for Australia was to travel up the east coast and see some of the sights.. Unfortunately, I’ve heard some things that have put me off doing so.

When I arrived in Sydney I wasn’t expecting it to be like this. The place (or more specifically the area I’m staying in) is overrun with Young British people partying… It’s an Australian Magaluf.

I expect (and hope) there are hostels in Sydney that are more personal, smaller and less like a university dormitory with a kitchen you can actually cook in and bathrooms that aren’t dirty enough for cockroaches to run around.

Unfortunately I can’t seem to find them! Can you help? If you can recommend any nice hostels in Sydney please let me know!

I’ve also been told that hostels are very similar to this one all over. Not just in Sydney but along the East Coast. This is quite possibly the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at in my life and if this is a taster of what’s to come I’d rather pack up and move on to a country that I can actually culturally backpack in.

This hostel is called Base Sydney- if you’ve stayed here before please let me know whether the east coast is just going to feel like this the entire way.

I’m not in the mood for partying to be honest, I did that in my younger years and can do so when I get back to England if I really want to. What I do want to do however is see some amazing national parks and experience things I’ve never done before.

I hear New Zealand is amazing and I’m very tempted just to head over there.

If you have any suggestions for what you think I should do next, please do get in touch I really would love some help with this!
