This week we are visiting Almeria in Spain. Staying in the Alegria Colonial Mar Aquafun in Roquetas De Mar, it is a part of Spain I’ve not visited before.
I chose the destination based purely on the hotel alone because it was great value and ticked all of our boxes. Now that we have a 3-year old, a great pool with lots of waterslides is definitely the priority. I also look for all inclusive so we have that unlimited supply of ice lollies and apple juice to keep her happy. It’s the simple things!
We arrived on Saturday after a long day of travelling with a taxi pickup of 4am! Luckily the journey was smooth with minimal delays and the 3 hour flight seemed to fly by.. Literally! We arrived at our hotel at midday and were allowed to enter our room immediately which was a bonus! We were really happy with our upgraded room view!

The weather so far has been sunny with clear skies and barely any breeze. I chose Southern Spain because I wanted the best chance of some sun in October and I didn’t want to risk the Balearic Islands or more North of Spain. Luckily my research paid off!

The pool here is very cold but it’s not stopped us swimming and it’s nice to get a break from the heat at times! So far we’ve not done a whole host of relaxing because our little one, Hilda, doesn’t know how to relax! But we are enjoying having no cooking and washing up to do and that’s always a bonus!

On Sunday we walked along the seafront and towards Roquetas De Mar. It was lovely being able to walk along such a large coastal path as Hilda could play football along the way. She walked along the wall most of the way and stopped only to explore the playgrounds that lined the beach every 5 minutes. Very impressive to see so many things for children!

After a long stroll along the beach we managed to give Hilda some napping time and we finally reached the port. It was small with not much going on but we moved inland and managed to find an inviting coffee bar. It was great to finally rest our legs and enjoy a drink. I ordered a chocolate coffee which came in a half pint glass! It was unusual drinking coffee from a straw and tasting the cold then the hot. We even had time for a second drink and I couldn’t resist the chance to try a new flavour of Fanta of course!

On our walk back to the hotel after our drinks, Hilda woke up and we let her play football. After a few kicks she had a nasty fall banging her head on the pavement. It was not a good sound. She cried for a while and we had to carry her home. Luckily she was okay but she has a lump on the back of her head and says her head hurts so we’ve been keeping an eye on her since.
Yesterday was a bank holiday in Spain and this explains why our hotel was busier than expected. A lot of Spanish were visiting amongst English travellers, it has been a nice mix. We have been trying to practice our Spanish but it isn’t quite up to scratch after not keeping up with it!
We had a simple day by the pool on Monday with a quick visit to the nearby mall where Hilda could run riot. A quick stop at the supermarket to stock up on Fanta and we were back by the pool in no time.

It has been a quiet first few days with no set plans and we’ve been lucky with the sunshine.
I write this whilst sitting on a bus to Almeria so stay tuned for what we get upto for the rest of our trip!
