The weird and wonderful Dino Easter Egg Trail in Embsay

I’ve been whizzing over to Skipton in North Yorkshire a lot lately. Have you ever been? Such a stunning part of England! It’s my favourite part of Yorkshire and the most beautiful part in my opinion. Read all about my recent and previous visits to Skipton and it’s surrounding areas below if you want to hear more!

Two sisters in Skipton

A day trip to the Yorkshire market town of Skipton exploring all it has to offer from canal walks to charity shops!

Today I found myself driving over to the little village of Embsay for their annual ‘Dino Egg Trail’.

What a pretty place! Another picturesque little village surrounded by rolling hills in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

I couldn’t help but admire the scenery as we walked around on the hunt for dinosaur eggs.

It took me until writing this to understand how dinosaurs related to Easter. Dinosaur eggs. Eggs = Easter. Of course! How could I miss this! Haha.

Having a dino obsessed toddler meant we couldn’t miss this. So great to see something different to the traditional Easter bunny egg trails.

So, after the one hour drive we parked at Embsay main car park. Great to see a free car park since it is such a rarity these days! The event was taking place straight opposite at the village hall. We couldn’t miss it with all the dinosaurs lurking nearby. We even spotted the giant bunny too but she’d hopped away before we made it out of the car.

The event was cute with tombola’s, food on sale and lots of activities. We arrived pretty late so didn’t stay in the hall long but of course I couldn’t leave without buying some goodies from the bake sale!

After scoffing our face with cake we wandered around the streets on the hunt for dinosaur eggs.

We had no idea where we were going as we arrived too late to purchase a trail map but we figured we’d be able to wing it just fine. All part of the fun not knowing where you are going! Luckily, the fun displays weren’t hard to miss but we will buy a trail map next time to support the event.

We had no idea what to expect when heading to this and we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of effort that had gone in to putting on this event. It was absolutely adorable seeing all the houses of families that were taking part. It reminded me of Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival that we attended last summer.

I love these kind of community events. They fill me with joy watching local villages coming together to make other families happy. People travel from all over to go to these things (including myself) and it’s wonderful what can be created from people joining in.

We walked around joining in with the displays; one inviting us to join the dinosaur’s party picnic and another asking us to find the ten dinosaurs. My daughter loved doing this. She loved to carry her dinosaur sticker around afterwards that she got from finding all ten! We even saw one homeowner accepting his prize for what we assume was the best dressed garden. Top marks for effort on this one!

My personal favourite was the dinosaurs that were packing up to move house. I wonder where they will go? Hopefully next year they are having a housewarming party and inviting the whole village!

I am really happy that this event wasn’t spoilt by rain and we managed to have a rare clear day. Even the sun started to pop out before we left too. We saw lots of children enjoying the displays and there was plenty to see.

On our way out of the village hall my little one even took part in the Fancy Dress costume swiping 2nd place for her little dinosaur outfit. She’s had this onesie since she was a baby but as she’s very little for her age she’s been wearing it for over a year now! Turns out it was worth keeping as it won her a little Bluey BBQ set she enjoyed playing with for the rest of the day!

A little event bringing lots of joy. We look forward to heading back next year! Great to discover another little village in a pretty part of Yorkshire too.
