This week I headed out for a Mothers Day treat by trying something completely new to me.. Brunch!
I recently heard about a social group called The Mum Club. (TMC)
A community for strong, independent women, who happen to have children.
They exist all over the country and run events for mums to meet up and bring their children along. I wondered how I could possibly have missed this club during my maternity leave in 2023 – I was so on it with baby groups! Turns out the North Leeds club only appeared in September 2024. Just one month after my MAT leave ended… typical!
Alas, my daughter may be nearly 2 and not a baby anymore (always my baby though), but that doesn’t matter because I will always be a mum. I might not be able to attend brunch with a baby in arms but I’m a mum and that’s awesome. That’s also what makes this club so unique and separates it from your typical baby groups that your little ones grow out of.
So I joined the club and attended my first event this week at Cow & Calf Country Pub & Restaurants in Ilkley.

This felt extra special to me being originally from Ilkley. You may have seen my recent posts about visiting Ilkley over the last couple of months. If you want to revisit these click below.
Despite living in Ilkley for so many years and visiting the iconic moors on many occasions I’ve never actually been in this pub. So it was great to visit somewhere new.
As my first event with TMC, I didn’t quite know what to expect but I knew included with my ticket were some interesting things to look forward to.
I arrived nice and early (surprising for me) to join a few other early birds and introduce my daughter to many many babies. I was greeted by the TMC host Kate and a variety of mums. The room was beautifully decorated and set up with goodies on the tables. There was so much going on we didn’t quite know where to look!

The first thing I noticed was the bundle of cute toys set-up on the play mats for the little ones to enjoy. These were from local family-run business Baby Ellor and I loved Megan’s story behind the products. I purchased some adorable baby sharks that kept my daughter entertained and the little ocean sorter which I loved! I am proud to show support to such a wonderful eco-friendly sustainable business.

The great thing about this event is there was even a local photographer, Helen Langdale, snapping away. I saw her capturing lots of shots for TMC marketing and these are all included in the purchase of our ticket too. She was super friendly and I can’t wait to see the images!
There was a lady named Jo from The Hidden Haven offering free massages which sadly I did not get to try out because my toddler kept me on my toes running from one room to the next instead! The massages looked rather appealing though that’s for sure.
Unfortunately I was one of the only toddler mums in attendance. It didn’t stop me from meeting lots of lovely mums and I really enjoyed chatting to those who already have older children and are starting over with newborns. It’s always interesting to hear their stories! I only wish my daughter wasn’t the only one using her little legs forcing me to chase her from one side of the pub to the other! Oops. At least I got my steps in.

For brunch I enjoyed my first Eggs Florentine and indulged in a couple of iced coffees. It is fair to say I was pretty full afterwards!

My daughters verdict on Eggs Florentine: No mummy.

The drink service from the venue was extremely slow but I left with a bag full of goodies and a positive experience from The Mum Club.

I would love to stay in touch with TMC and I hope to attend another event with them soon!
If you’ve never heard of The Mum Club please check out their website for a list of all their events across the country. This event was provided by TMC North Leeds.
