On Ilkla Moor Baht ‘at

No I’m not crazy, that title will make sense to some of you, especially the Yorkshire folk!

So following my post about wanting to do more with my free time, I finished work Saturday evening and had already planned not to waste the rest of the night.

We hopped in the car and headed to the top of Ilkley also known as Ilkley Moor! If you’re not familiar with the place, Ilkley is a beautiful little town located in West Yorkshire. A place not far from both Leeds and Bradford and also Ilkley is my hometown!

If you’re wondering about the title, we’ll it’s a famous song. (Yes we have a song.) It means on Ilkley Moor without my hat! And of course I did forget my hat..

I’m very familiar with the place having spent most of my life here but I want to explore more of the moors that I haven’t before, after all its a very big place!

So we parked at the iconic Cow and Calf. This is where the famous rocks stand and if you haven’t already guessed, the small rock is the calf and the large one is the cow!

It was a very cloudy evening so we couldn’t do any star gazing like we planned, nor did we catch the sunset. But we did do some walking and made friends with the wildlife.

We came across people camping on the moors by the woods, I felt inspired to do this myself and I definitely plan to do some camping around the UK next year.

After walking for a few minutes we came across the remains of a very old house. It was very dark though so hard to make out much of what was ahead of us.

As it became too dark we had a bit of a wander and enjoyed the beautiful views from the rocks.

It won’t be long before I’m up here again. There are a few things I want to head to that I don’t think I’ve been to before so I will visit over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more posts if you’re interested in visiting Yorkshire too.
